Jason Murphy
Electrical Apprentice - Fully Qualified Electrician
I was thrilled and delighted to finally receive my papers and card to be recognised as a fully qualified electrician on the 19th December 2019.
Four years sounds like a long time, but it isn’t if you enjoy what you are doing and learning along the way, the time will fly. My role as an apprentice to qualified electrician has varied since finishing the apprenticeship and I find I am still learning on the job every day. Suir Engineering do a great job of making sure you get varied experience so that other opportunities are available to you in the future.
I was given a MV switchroom to finish out and given a drawing off my foreman set out to get it done. Lucky for me the MV switchroom had it all (general services and fire alarm) so I got my teeth into everything. As mentioned above, I’m still learning every day as Suir Engineering have brought in more advanced and technical ways to measure the Job such as BIM Modelling and 3D Drawing. Suir Engineering have ensured that I am continuously upskilling, and I am now confident in using BIM instead of the old way such as paper drawings. BIM allows me to see if we are clashing with other trades containment and gives me an opportunity to resolve any issues with the main contractor. Suir Engineering have also brought in training on PID controlling and process measurement which I am very interested in. I put my name forward and I am currently training in IT Carlow every Friday for three hours. I am hoping to bring that knowledge to Suir Engineering and help with projects on site.
I would fully recommend a career with Suir Engineering. If you are willing to put the work in, you can go far quickly and you are supported 100% of the way.

Colin Lambe
Site Supervisor
I started my apprenticeship in the year 2000 where my role with Suir Engineering has progressed from Apprentice, Electrician, QA/QC, Chargehand, Foreman to Site Supervisor where I currently manage a site team in MSD Brinny.
My day-to-day role includes managing all aspects of health and safety, meeting with clients daily, planning/scheduling works, sourcing and ordering components & materials, supervising ongoing works / completed works, QA/QC, Commissioning Instrumentation / Electrical Installations and providing documentation for all the above.
Since beginning my career with Suir, I have worked in a wide range of sectors from Pharma, Energy, Data and Food Sectors and have developed a vast knowledge of the trade and extremely valuable experience. The team at Suir Engineering and the people I have worked with on site have always supported me on my journey to where I am today. There is always a helping hand when needed, be it from the trades carrying out works or senior management.
I have completed training courses in computer skills, CAD, managing safely in construction and CPD professional skills to date. It’s clear to see in my experience that Suir encourage training at any stage of a persons career to help them complete their roles and this is evident every day on site from working with others within the company.
