CIF Safety Campaign 2024

CIF Safety Campaign 2024

Suir Engineering is excited to announce our role as a Gold Sponsor of the CIF Safety Campaign 2024!

We invite all companies, organisations, and individuals in the construction sector to join us in supporting this vital initiative. The CIF Safety Campaign promotes best practices while highlighting the critical importance of safety, health, and well-being in our workplaces and beyond.

The campaign, organised by the CIF Safety and Health Subcommittees, aims to foster a culture of safety among Ireland’s construction workforce, which includes over 159,000 workers, clients, and industry stakeholders. Our very own EHS team members are actively involved in this initiative, working to engage both CIF members and non-members in meaningful ways.

This year, the campaign will run from 14th to 25th October, offering various activities and events to promote safety awareness. We’ll kick off the campaign with a strong focus on the Irish Heart Foundation ‘Hands for Life’ initiative during the first week. Following that, we’ll dedicate five days to site safety discussions and activities, allowing for robust engagement across the industry.

Mark your calendars for these key dates during the CIF Safety Campaign 2024, and let’s work together to enhance safety and well-being in construction!

New Sustainability Committee at Suir Engineering

New Sustainability Committee at Suir Engineering

The Suir Engineering Sustainability Committee is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the development of sustainability strategies and supporting initiatives across the business, addressing key environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts, risks, and opportunities. The committee will ensure compliance with relevant regulations, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Taxonomy. By leveraging diverse expertise, the committee will guide and approve corporate targets and KPIs, ensuring that sustainability is fully integrated into the broader business strategy. Additionally, it will serve as a focal point for engaging with stakeholders on sustainability across the value chain.

The Sustainability Committee’s main purpose is to provide oversight, guidance, and strategic direction to ensure the company not only complies with legislation and reporting requirements but also proactively integrates sustainability into its core business operations and strategy for long-term value creation.

The role of the committee will evolve as Suir Engineering’s sustainability strategy grows and becomes embedded into business as usual. The initial outcomes for the next 12 months can be summarised as follows:

  • Conduct a Double Materiality Assessment and agree on a CSRD action plan, outlining the most material issues to the business that will shape the sustainability strategy and future roadmap.
  • Assess the current and potential sustainability impacts, risks, and opportunities of priority sustainability topics- to include any emerging topics.
  • Understand which issues may increase or decrease in importance over a longer period (5–10 years).
  • Provide feedback and guidance on Suir Engineering’s sustainability strategy as it is being developed and implemented

Additionally, Ellie will ensure compliance with non-financial reporting requirements, such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the EU Taxonomy.

In her new role, Ellie will ensure that ESG considerations remain central to Suir Engineering’s business strategy. Her expertise and leadership will be crucial in aligning the company’s operations with the evolving sustainability landscape as Suir Engineering continues to expand into international markets.

John Kelly, CEO at Suir Engineering said: “We have made significant strides in our sustainability journey, but we recognise the need to do even more, hence the creation of this new senior role. Suir Engineering Sponsors Waterford FC Boot Room

Suir Engineering Sponsors the Waterford FC Community Boot Room

Waterford FC in the Community and Suir Engineering are delighted to announce their
new partnership with the launch of ‘The Community Boot Room’. This joint venture aims
to help remove some barriers to participation in sport for young and old. Waterford FC in the Community are very aware through the work they do that there are times, for various reasons, that families may not be able to purchase a new pair of boots. There are times when boots that are too small, too big, or damaged need to be worn. As boots can be one of the more expensive items for sport, we have launched this to try and assist families when they need it. It will be based permanently in the RSC, our home ground. One thing we do ask is any donations are clean, and of good quality.

An important factor for both Suir Engineering & Waterford FC was to have the Boot Room as a community initiative, rather than just an internal one where you had to be a member of WFC or one of our supporter groups. This is to provide boots to people who need them no matter what sport they play. The next step is to build a selection of boots and we are open to donations of new or used boots from individuals, sports clubs, schools, or businesses. We have already started collections with various groups. If anyone requires any further information about the Community Boot Room, or would like to donate or organize a collection they can contact Colin Power @ colin.power@waterfordfc.ie. You can also drop  boots into our Club Shop, where we will gratefully accept boots – both new and used.

Speaking on the launch of the Boot Room, Waterford FC Head of Community Colin Power spoke about how important the Boot Room is to have:

This is a very significant partnership with Waterford FC in the Community & Suir Engineering to launch The Community Boot Room. It’s a massive vote of confidence for what Waterford FC are trying to achieve in the community having a large long established company like Suir Engineering supporting us in this initiative. I would like to thank Paddy Byrne and all at Suir Engineering for their help and cooperation over the last few months. Although this is not a new concept, I think the fact that we are making it available to all families that need it, no matter what sport they play means it is a genuine Community initiative.”

John Kelly (CEO of Suir Engineering) was delighted to partner with Waterford FC in the Community Boot Room, commenting:

“At Suir Engineering, we firmly believe that sports participation should be accessible to all, transcending any barriers. The Community Boot Room initiative, in partnership with Waterford FC in the Community, aligns with our commitment to physical and mental well-being. This initiative not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the fabric of our community, promoting a sense of unity. By ensuring that boots reach those in need, regardless of their chosen sport or affiliation, collectively, we drive positive change.”
