Students from WIT Visit the Slievecallan Wind Farm Development

Students from WIT Visit the Slievecallan Wind Farm Development

The trip was facilitated by past student of the program Vladamir Krot who is resident engineer on site with Suir Engineering. The 22 million euro project for WCRE Developments is being undertaken by Suir Engineering and will be completed by July this year, just 20 months from start to finish.

While on site the students were shown one of the 30No. 2.5MW wind turbine bases, given a tour of the 2No. 116 mVA transformers and associated switchgear. Commissioning of the power and control systems within the 110kv Eirgrid Compound was taking place on site while the students were present. The students also got the opportunity to witness one of the 110kv cable joints being made off and to see some of the 31km of 110kv underground cable being installed between Slievecallan and Ennis.
