Meet some of our team

Leo Doherty
Project Director
I started working for Suir Engineering in 1995 and have been afforded the opportunity to progress with my career starting as an apprentice electrician. I have advanced from apprentice to electrician, supervisor, Project Manager and to my current role as Project Director. During my time with Suir Engineering I have attended training courses on management skills, leadership, behavioral safety, career coaching, Project management and I successfully completed a level 9 Specialist Diploma in Lean Tools and Quality Management in the University of Limerick.
My job role entails the management of the project site team from the design stage to the handover of the projects to the client. I have overall responsibility for successful completion of projects to client satisfaction.

Aoife Gilheany
European Regional Manager
I have been working in the Construction industry for nearly 7 years. I started off as a graduate EHS officer and at an early part of my career I was given an opportunity to prove myself. I developed more skills with each new team I worked with. Working with civil crews, formwork, M&E, structural steel, flooring, furniture install crews, has provided me with a great spread of knowledge in the general contracting and fit out world. When I started in my second role, I went in as the sole EHS team member and as the company grew so did my level of responsibility. I got a chance to prove myself and earned the role of EHS manager. I started with Suir Engineering in May 2022 as Regional EHS Manager and then progressed to European Regional Manager in November of 2023. I’m delighted to have progressed substantially in my career in the last couple of years, I’ve been given fantastic opportunities to work in the construction industry and to also represent females working in the industry.
One of my favourite things about working in the EHS Department is the social aspect of what we do. You get to work with all different disciplines and at different stages of the projects. In my role at Suir Engineering I also get to travel to Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. It is a great opportunity to see how the construction industry functions in these countries and to see the differences in our legislation.
To anyone looking for a career within construction, there are so many opportunities in this industry. Reach out to construction companies or to colleges and see what roles are out there, ask if there are any placement opportunities or open days coming up. Reach out to females working in the industry and simply ask loads of questions!
It is such a brilliant industry to work in and it is always evolving and improving.

Ronan Parkes
Electrical Foreman
I started serving my time as an electrician in March 2001. It’s hard to believe it has been over 22 years since I joined the industry. Working in the industry has created many opportunities for me, I’ve worked all over the world in industries such as oil & gas, mining, pharma, bio-medical, renewables and utilities. I have worked on these projects as an electrician and in a supervisory capacity gaining invaluable experience which I have brought with me to Suir Engineering. In turn, Suir have recognised this and have encouraged me to upskill with various courses including project management, safety, and operations courses to develop my skills further and be a greater asset to the company and ultimately our clients.
There are many things I like about working in the construction industry but my favourite part of my job is dealing with different teams on site, be it our own guys, sub-contractors, design engineers or the client, to produce solutions for the many obstacles you face on a daily basis on a large construction project.
One of my favourite things about working for Suir is the opportunities and unique projects that have come my way. Recently I become Electrical Foreman for Moneypoint Synchronous Condenser Pilot Project in Co. Clare. Moneypoint was a first of a kind for the country, the largest flywheel ever installed in the world and the type of condenser was a first of a kind for Siemens Energy too. It was built on an extremely tight program and there was a huge effort between Suir and Siemens to get the project over the line. There were some testing moments on the project, especially towards the end but we got there in the end and the project speaks for itself.
To those of you thinking about a career in the construction industry, remember that construction and engineering companies in Ireland are recognised as industry leaders around the world. I have worked for Irish companies around the globe, and you are always well received. The training and experience gained working here in Ireland will open doors to you and offer great opportunities to travel and experience work and life in other countries.

Adrian Lambe
Electrical Engineer
I first started my electrical apprenticeship in May 2015 and then joined Suir Engineering as a qualified electrician in January 2020, throughout this time I have been solely based in different pharmaceutical and bio-medical projects. In my career to date I have progressed from apprentice electrician to electrician and then from electrician to electrical engineer thanks to Suir Engineering’s graduate programme.
One of my favourite things about what I do is being involved in the technical side of the electrical industry. I also enjoy collaborating with the many other team members here on site. My favourite part about working for Suir Engineering is having the opportunity to upskill and progress within the company. Additionally, being a part of the design, install and commissioning stages of a project as you can see every aspect of the project. Working with a team ensures that you won’t face challenges alone!
I would highly recommend starting a career in the construction industry because you earn as you learn and there are numerous opportunities to upskill and progress within your profession to build a fortunate and rewarding career.

John Cashin
Senior EHS Advisor
I have been working for Suir Engineering in the Health & Safety department since 2014 after I graduated from NUIG Galway with a Level 8 Degree. I started my career with Suir in a Junior EHS role and have gradually progressed to my current position as Senior EHS Advisor. The huge benefit to my role is that it has taken me to various jobs and locations, I started in the greater Dublin area and have since moved to my current location on J&J Visioncare in Limerick for the past 5 years.
One of my favourite things about working in the Construction Industry is working as part of a team with a collaborative approach to manage and overcome challenges as they arise. Having a good relationship with your direct site team, clients, main contractor and sub-contractor is very important to ensure successful delivery of the job safely.
Job security is also important to me and Suir provide many avenues to support growth and career progression. If you wish to upskill and learn new disciplines, support and guidance is available for all employees both trade & support staff.
To anyone thinking about starting a career in the Construction / Engineering Industry, I would like to remind you that working in the Construction Industry can help you build for a successful future – The industry in Ireland is recognised globally and with that offers people great opportunity and experience to develop both at home and abroad.
