Barnageeragh 110kV GIS Substation & Grid Cable

Project Description

The Barnageeragh 110kV Station and Grid Route is a turnkey installation where Suir Engineering were appointed as the general contractor for the project. The remit from project inception was to assist our client in the following: 

  •  Pre-planning stage including management of 3rd party regulatory bodies such as Eirgrid, ESB, Planning authorities and utility providers. 
  • Early engagement on design and key deliverables allowing a collaborative approach to the Barnageeragh project. 
  • Value engineering at concept / basic engineering stage while adhering to asset management specifications.
  • Identification of grid routes through challenging areas (both industrial and public) with a high density of existing infrastructure.
  • Delivery within a timeframe to meet Data Centre customer requirements.

Suir Engineering Scope of Work 

Appointed as the General Contractor, Suir Engineering were responsible for all design, build and commissioning deliverables to the regulatory specifications. A turnkey multi-discipline installation including full civil, mechanical and electrical requirements has being delivered within the original timeframe and ahead of overall schedule. 


The scope of works includes:
  •  Site establishment and logistics including traffic management (including public highways).
  • Project Supervisor Construction Stage Role. (CDM)
  • Civil installation including groundworks, substructure and dual 110kV grid. installation within an urban / industrial environment.
  • CSA installation of multi-level steel superstructure, cladding and concrete 1st floor.
  • Electrical – LV / HV infrastructure and cabling.
  •  Equipment – supply and installation of GIS Switchgear and ancillary LCC panels. 
  • Supply and installation of 12.5km of 110kV cabling.
  • Control and Protection Installation. 
  • Mechanical installation for the station. 
  • Full commissioning and handover of the installation.

MSD – CARLOW 2

Project Description

This project involved the investment by MSD in their Carlow site to secure the production of the biologic and vaccine pipeline for two of it’s major products in Keytrunda and Gardasil 9. The aim of this project is to support the MSD productions capacity for Keytrunda and Gardasil 9 by building a state of the art facility that mimics the current Carlow 1 in size, layout and capacity to leverage the current knowledge from the current site operation. 

The Carlow 2 project consisted of several buildings:

  • Spine Corridor Expansion

  • Black Utility Expansion 
  • Warehouse Expansion  

The scope also included changes to the existing Carlow 1 

  •  Reduction of existing warehouse ambient storage area to provide new QC and MRO area

  • Installation of chiller and cooling tower in existing CUB

Kellystown 220kV Substation & Grid Cable Project

Project Description

Suir Engineering was responsible for turnkey delivery of a 220kV GIS Network Substation on a site in Kellystown, Co Kildare.

 This project includes the design, construction, testing and commissioning of all civil and structural works, primary / secondary equipment and auxiliary services required for a functioning GIS substation. 

The key features of the project are a 220kV GIS building, 220kV double busbar GIS, 3150 A rating consisting of 18 no. bays & substation control system and protection systems. Suir Engineering has also been responsible for installing two 220kV cable circuits from line / cable interfaces to the 220kV GIS Substation and to install three (3) 220kV cable circuits from 220kV GIS Substation to third party transformers.

WuXi Biologics

Project Description

 WuXi Biologics invested €325 Million on a new Biologics facility in Dundalk, Co. Louth. This 54,232sqm biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility on a 20.74-hectare greenfield site is set to become the world’s largest single-use biologics manufacturing facility. The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will feature single-use bioreactors for commercial biomanufacturing, as well as next-generation processing technology.  It will be the first WuXi Biologics manufacturing facility outside of China and is expected to help accelerate biologics development in Europe. The site in Dundalk, Co Louth aims to provide 400+ jobs in the community.

Hanover Quay Commercial Development

Project Description

This project involved the Electrical Services Shell & Core Installations for an Office & Commercial development of Block C1  Hanover Quay, Dublin 2.

The development consisted of 7 floors of office space over one level of basement car parking. There were also extensive site services works to the surrounding street level for incoming utilities and new public lighting scheme.

Keppel Project 20 Expansion & Upgrade

Project Description

This project was driven by a need to upgrade the existing infrastructure to meet the needs of Keppel Data Centres for the next 15years+. Works are designed and planned to replace legacy an inefficient M&E systems and to offer enhanced availability. Works are conducted in a live data centre environment. Suir Engineering was appointed as a main contractor for ARN51 ROMP01 (phase 2) Project Supply & Installation of general contractor services, mechanical services, electrical services, sprinkler services, security services for a confidential data centre client in Katrineholm, Sweden 

The overall Campus project consists of a secured entry, site roads, a substation, a process water storage area, MV Substation, generators and Data Centre Building. Project ARN51 in Katrineholm  consists of a Data Centre Building approximately 14,000M2 and will utilise 34MW of power at full capacity.

Cordal 110kV Substation Project

Project Description

This contestable 110kV Project is located in Co.Kerry and consists of a 3Bay 110kV AIS and 5Bay 38kV AIS substation. The substation was part of a large Wind Park development being constructed by Cubico Energy. The station is tail feed by 10KM of 110kV underground cable from the existing Eirgird Substation. Suir Engineering were responsible for the full turnkey project and took the role of Project Supervisor Construction Stage (CDM) along with responsibility for the following:

Slievecallan 110kV Substation & Cable Project

Project Description

This contestable 110kV Project is located in Co.Clare and consists of a 3Bay 110kV AIS substation located in Slievecallan.  The substation was part of a large Wind Park development being constructed by WCRE. The station is tail feed by 31KM of 110kV underground cable from the existing Ennis ESBN Substation.

Suir Engineering were responsible for the management of full Turnkey Project & PSCS role for the Substation and Cable route.
